Religion Versus Spirituality

Adding the Ignored Perspective

Although religion and spirituality
may sound like the same thing, they are vastly different.

Please compare:

The immensity of all of creation. For example, "There are more stars in the known universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in the entire world."

The relatively insignificant ramblings of some of our distant, suppositious ancestors who created the religion that millions still believe in today.

One could easily say that Religion is to God As an Ant is to the Immensity of all Creation. The ant analogy is probably a fair assessment of the relationship between the present-day, human-created, religious structures and whatever that unknown, unknowable source of all is that we call "God."

Religion:

Religion deals with with external trappings, rituals, and structures, -- with structured organization -- with fixed and all-to-often, dogmatic beliefs -- with believing what others say about God. In religion, God is out there somewhere separate from humans and separate from nature, and humans are separate from each other.

Spirituality:

Spirituality deals with the our internal personal relationship with the ultimate mysteries of life -- with speculations about who and what humans really are and how we relate to that unknown source of all. Spirituality is fluid, dynamic, internal and intimately personal. In spirituality, we are inside of God, and intimately related to the source of creation, to nature, and to our fellow humans.
